How Do I Find a Notary Public?

The Oregon Secretary of State has a list of active notaries here, but there is no search function and it is basically a database of names and addresses. You could sort by city, but the interface is clunky and not user friendly. There are several websites that have notary directories and some of the notary associations have directories that you can search. Many banks and public libraries offer notary service for their customers.

Oregon Notaries Public Go Online: Required Remote Notarization Training

Remote Online Notarization (RON) law (temporary) was enacted during the first special session of the 2020 Oregon Legislative Assembly:

“The Oregon Legislature passed HB 4212A, which was signed into law by the Governor on June 30, 2020. While this bill contained many concepts, part of it legalizes Remote Online Notarization (RON) through July 2021.

RON allows a commissioned notary public to perform notarial acts using audio/video technology for remotely located individuals under certain circumstances using vendors meeting specific requirements. RON also allows notaries from other states to perform Remote Online Notarizations for Oregonians….” [Link to the Oregon Secretary of State website for official information about remote notarization requirements.]

Notario Fraud Conference (Oregon State Bar CLE, 9/24/14)

Notario Fraud Conference at the bar on September 24, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:45 p.m. at the OSB Center. The conference is co-sponsored by the Oregon Chapter of American Immigration Lawyers Association and in cooperation with the OSB Consumer Law Section. Participants will earn 3.75 Access to Justice MCLE Credits.

Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown will give the keynote address.

“…. You will hear up-to-date information about the growing problem of dishonest notarios, and learn about the remedies available to victims. Notarios are nonlawyers who commonly provide immigration, tax, and other legal advice to members of immigrant communities.
