The 2012 Oregon State Bar (OSB) House of Delegates Meeting is scheduled for November 2, 2012.

Intriguing recommendation that might come out of the OSB HOD meeting on November 2, 2012:

Resolution 13

Resolved, The House of Delegates recommends that the Board of Governors study the feasibility of making a metropolitan court district combining the resources of Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties to increase access to justice and make an appropriate recommendation to the Oregon Legislature, the Oregon Judicial Department and the Chief Justice.”

Resolution 21

Resolved, The House of Delegates of the Oregon State Bar instructs the Board of Governors to support and to seek legislative approval for a centralized legal notice system to be operated for the benefit of all Oregonians under the auspices of either the state judicial department or a private nonprofit such as the Oregon Law Foundation.

“Law firms working with contract lawyers should be aware that law firms, just like any other businesses, may be audited by federal and state agencies to ensure they are correctly classifying their contract lawyers as either employees or independent contractors. A firm may assume a contract lawyer is an independent contractor without carefully analyzing the factors distinguishing independent contractors from employees.

High school, college, and law students: the following quick tips might do the trick:

1) If you’re a current law student, visit your law school’s career services or student affairs office.  If you plan to take a bar review course, check out the discounts and fee waivers that are available to law students.

2) If you’re a current or future law student and want a brief primer on the bar exam in a specific state, visit that state’s Bar Admissions website. In Oregon, visit the Oregon State Bar Admissions website and look for the Bar Exam Information links.
